Who can take this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to meet the wide ranging needs of the communications systems industry which is part of the communications technologies sector.

This award is aimed at learners who:

  • do not have access to an NVQ
  • wish for career progression within the ICT industry or related sector
  • wish to develop skills learnt from other qualifications
  • require evidence towards the underpinning knowledge of the related NVQ

This qualification is for employed individuals who wish to embark on an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Communication Technology. Designed to meet the rapid growth and development of the industry.

How does this qualification improve my career prospects?

This qualification is accepted as the technical certificate for the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Communication Technology.

What does it involve?

You will need to take three core units:

  • Develop, manage and support the communications systems environment
  • Fundamentals of electronic communications
  • Networking communications devices

You can then choose any of the following pathways, each of which has one further unit.

  • Voice and Data Communications
  • Radio Systems
  • Transmission and Switching
  • Network Management and Security
  • Install, Commission and Maintain
  • Communications Cabling for Enterprise Networks

Each unit will be assessed by a short answer test and an assignment which will assess practical activities. This award is a focused and designed to help you to quickly pick up the major principles of the area. It is also recognised as the technical certificate for Advanced Modern Apprenticeship. The Communications Cabling for Enterprise Networks pathway provides progression if you have successfully completed the level 2 Communications Cabling award.

How long will it take?

As part of the Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Communication Technology this qualification will take between 24 and 36 months to complete.
