Learners receive their certificates

Learners who responded to Cablecom’s advertising campaign to gain the latest qualifications in Telecommunications and enhance their employability prospects in one of the fastest growing areas of employment in the UK, celebrated their hard work and success with the presentation of their certificates.

Certificates were presented by Cablecom’s Telecommunications Director, Mr. Sean Ratchford.

Over 15 weeks the groups have worked in Cablecom’s custom built workshops and practiced their new skills under the tutelage of telecommunications experts, honed their IT skills, learned what it takes to give excellent customer service and compile a CV that really gets noticed!

The tally of certificates to add to new CV’s includes: BTEC Diploma in Professional Competence for IT & Telecoms Professionals, City & Guilds Award in Communications Cabling, Safety Passport, IT Skills, Employability Skills, Presenting a Professional Image and giving good Customer Service.

Hands-on experience is essential in the Telecoms industry and learners said:

I applied for the course as a change from the college scene. I have benefitted from skills learned on using real telecoms equipment and have greatly improved my levels of confidence in working on my own and in a team. My personal progress has been 100%. At the beginning I felt vulnerable, with no direction for the future. I felt confused about my own ability and aptitudes. At the end, I feel I have progressed in attitude, skills and knowledge and it has all been worthwhile.”

When Tom was asked if he would recommend the course to others he replied:

Definitely and I already have!

I was recommended by the 5 Lamps organisation for this course. I liked the Fibre Optics best and found it the most interesting. I would never have had the skills, knowledge and experience to apply for a Virgin Media job, if not for this course. The employability skills sessions helped me completely re-vamp my old CV to a new format. The skills learned and how to write and submit an eye-catching CV and Covering Letter helped me get a job interview the very same day as the class!

Coming on this course was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I found the copper and fibre parts of the course the most interesting because I learn better by applying myself and being practical than sitting in a class room. I’m more confident and feel more comfortable in this [workplace] environment than I ever would have done.

Good luck for the future to all our learners!
