Manual Handling Awareness Training (1 Day)

Manual handling activities are the cause of numerous accidents in the workplace and also long term disorders such as back pain and reduced mobility. This 1 day course will enable delegates to look carefully at their own work activities and contribute to the development of safer methods and tasks in co-operation with their managers and supervisors.

Who is the qualification for?

All levels of staff whose work involves manual handling. The course is useful for managers and supervisors, enhancing their understanding of current legislation.

What are the entry requirements?

No prior knowledge or qualification is necessary.

How is the course assessed?

A variety of methods are used, including practical assessments in the workplace, case studies, exercises and videos.

What will I study on the course?

  • Introduction: What is Manual Handling?
  • The responsibilities imposed by the Manual handling Operations Regulations 1992
  • Manual handling injuries
  • Completing manual handling assessments
  • Controlling the risks
  • Safer handling techniques
  • Where possible, the organisation’s existing policies, procedures and documentation will be used during the course to ensure that delegates understand:
  • The organisation’s policy/procedures relating to manual handling
  • How to complete any forms and documents provided
  • Where to find further information and help within the organisation
  • The organisation’s health & safety management system
  • At the end of the course delegates should be able to:
  • Explain what is meant by the term ‘manual handling’
  • Explain how manual handling can cause injuries and give examples
  • State the principles for controlling manual handling risks and apply them in a practical context
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of the value and purpose of conducting a manual handling assessment and what employees can expect of such assessments

How long will it take?

1 day at our training facility in Stockton-On-Tees, Middlesbrough or on site at your premises.

Certification: On successful completion of the course, delegates receive a certificate of attendance which may be used for Continued Professional Development (CPD) or supporting evidence towards an NVQ.
